Medica is a nonprofit health insurance plan that was created by Minneapolis doctors in 1975. Today they serve over 1.5 million people and their plans are available in 12 states.

My experience with Medica started as a summer internship in 2021 as I was graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. As I started this position, I picked up with their in-house design team as they were in the middle of a full rebrand. My responsibilities included layout design, icon creation, template creation, and many more components that are critical to remodeling a visual identity.

As my internship came to a close, I was hired on as a contract designer to continue my work through the end of the year. During this phase of my work I had the opportunity to create a fully-rounded, interactive, and workable brand guidelines digital book that is still in use throughout the company today.

My most valuable takeaways from my time at Medica were designing within a set brand identity, working on a corporate team, working across multiple departments, layout and document design, template design, and working within mandated design & content rules.
